Radio shack has this little back-of-set antenna for CB's (sorry about the curse word...). It is about a foot or so high and has a 90 degree construction, so you just plug it in to turn the set into a portable. It sells for $ 8.95. Questions for the net: 1) Can it be used for 2m, or will the center loading coil make it impossible to match to 144 MHz ? Anybody try this particular antenna ? 2) Does anybody in the ham world make such antennas, for any band ? 3) How about homebrew ? Does anybody know of articles for back-of-rig portable antennas, especially 2m ? My intended application is for travel. I do not have an HT, but would like to be able to carry my rig with me on trips, and be able to set up anywhere (hotel rooms, etc.). My suitcase will fit my rig and a small power supply, but Ringo Rangers or Butternut Verticals are obviously out of the question.
