a I'd like to correspond with anyone who has one of the new TAPR TNC's or who has upgraded their Beta board to V 3.0 software. The calibration routine won't light the LED's, so I had to calibrate the modem using a frequency counter. Some people have told me my tones aren't the same loudness, but that could be rolloff in my transmitter (ICOM 260-A). Regardless, my deviation is too low so I'm in the process of throwing together a preamp. I can copy other packet stations with no problem, but they can't copy me. I don't know if it's a software problem (least likely), a bad chip, such as the VIA (a little more likely), or if I bollixed up the assembly (alas, most likely). I don't know if this is significant, but at power-up, the RESET and SPARE LED's light okay, but the CWID LED lights at the same time, instead of turning on a couple of seconds later, like the manual says is supposed to happen. What *does* happen is the RESET, SPARE, and CWID LED's come on at the same time, together with the TXD LED. The TXD LED turns off a couple of seconds later and the sign-on message appears. Also, is the RESET LED ever supposed to turn off? Mine never does. The ROM checksums are correct. PS: The square-wave outputs of the modulator and demodulator get to the VIA and HDLC just fine. What happens to them after they go through those 40-pin black boxes, I haven't the foggiest idea. John O.
