I am running Xenix System V/386 Release 2.3.2 and development system Release 2.3.0d. The Sosco SLS info file states that lng085 is no longer available, replaced by lng244. (Info last update=10/16/90). Now, lng085 was intended to upgrade Development System Release 2.3.0. Also, lng244.ltr states to apply this ONLY to DV Release 2.3.1. Now the questions? How do you get from DV Rlease 2.3.0 to 2.3.1? Is DV Release 2.3.0+lng085 = DV Release 2.3.1? Does anyone have a copy of lng085{.ltr .Z} as it has been deleted from sosco. Does it make sense to include new libraries and include files from lng244 but not the compiler phases? Would this result in a workable system? Would it be beneficial if one were using gcc rather than cc? Ron. -- | Ronald J. Just to clarify things I'll post again here: There has been a lot of discussion the past few days on lng085, lng244, and the XENIX devsys. Hopefully this comment may shed some light on things. Thanks to Bela Lubkin in our support department for this information. There is no XENIX devsys 2.3.2. The person who told Dan Everhart that was mistaken. Maybe s/he was thinking of UNIX devsys 3.2.2, which recently started shipping. Upgrades from 2.3.0 to 2.3.1 devsys are free. Your devsys must be registered with us to get the upgrade but you don't have to have a support contract. Further, you can register when you call. You'll need the serial number for your devsys. lng085 is obsolete, replaced by the free upgrade to 2.3.1. lng244 applies to 2.3.1 and results in the most current XENIX development system available. It fixes a few compiler bugs, updates /lib/ldr to understand static functions, and fixes a bug in the mouse event library. You may ask media to include lng244 with your upgrade to 2.3.1. I don't have information on what changed from 2.3.0 to 2.3.1. The current version of the 286 devsys is 2.2.1, and will probably not see another update. - Rich Trivett SCO Technical Marketing

Thank you, Richard, for posting this information. I received copies of it via e-mail from other SCO customers before this posting. I already called SCO and ordered the upgrade. My experience with SCO on this has been a delight. The whole process only took five or ten minutes, including the wait for the "next available customer assistant". It would help if sosco!/usr/spool/SLS/info would report things like free upgrade available..call. Perhaps the information is reported somewhere that I don't read (or don't pay for).
