I'd like to get some feedback from anyone who's got any practical experience putting 30+ users on a 486 or 386 machine. Under consideration is an HP Vectra 486/25mhz machine, 16mb of RAM, 2 310mb ESDI drives and some kind of intelligent i/o controller (probably a Computone ALC with 2 16-port async adapters). Users will access the system via standard character terminals. The program load will be data entry, report generation and serial communications (direct wire to non-Unix hosts and via modem to remote Unix hosts). If you've got experience putting 30+ users on a {4,3}86-based system (especially on HP Vectra machines), I'd like to hear your war stories. -- Dave Hammond daveh@marob.masa.com uunet!masa.com!marob!daveh
