With regard to the illegal monitoring question, the issue reduces to: 1. Those who have `illegal' setups regularly quote FCC regulations, i.e. as long as the signals cross my property, and I do not divulge their contents, I may legally view/listen to the signals. 2. The utilities (MDS, satellite movie companies, etc) quote the theft of service laws, i.e. if you are somehow bypassing their rate structure (it really does not matter how), then you are breaking the law. So please, lets not start a debate over who is correct; many inconclusive wars have already been fought over this question. Let the courts decide. Rick Spanbauer SUNY/Stony Brook ps. I fall into category (1), and believe that if the sender wants to protect the message contents, it should be encrypted in such a way that it is not cost effective for me to decrypt the message.
