[comp.unix.xenix.sco] Beginners questions

eesrajm@cc.brunel.ac.uk (Andrew J Michael) (01/17/91)

I looked around and couldn't find an FAQ file, so please forgive me for
asking ....

I've just got a 386 up at home running SCO XENIX System V 386 2.3.2. I use
Suns at work, so I'm not a beginner in the Unix world, although I'm more BSD
than Sys V. I'd like to know a few simple beginner's questions, and would be
glad for some help. It might perhaps be worthwhile posting rather than
mailing since others might be interested as well as me, perhaps ???

1. I want to get X11 up as soon as possible. I have Chain Lee's patches
(thanks !), but I need gcc. I have the gcc-1.38 sources, but trying to
compile them is rapidly becoming a pain. I'm not even sure which machine
   definitions to use. I do know it's a 386 ..... !!
Seriously, could someone point me to an ftp site with gcc patches or
   binaries ?

2. I also appear to need the ranlib Chain Lee refers to. Again, pointers
   appreciated.

3. What is the current position regarding TCP/IP for Xenix ? Is there a
public domain implementation around, and if so, where ?

Thanks in advance

Andy Michael
