Right now we are running VP/ix on a NEC box. We have partitioned the hard disk, so that it would also run MS-DOS. We followed the instructions in the manual to set up a DOS partition with Xenix partition. Right now, DOS partition is running MS-DOS V3.30, where VP/ix is running DOS V3.2 (which came with the VP/ix package). We are trying to set up VP/ix, so that it can directly access the DOS partition from inside VP/ix. Basically, when we type 'd:', it will take us directly to DOS partition. (I know it is silly to do that, and it can cause a LOT of problems.. But, I can't get my boss to understand that!!!!) Anyway.. Here is the problem.. When we try to access the DOS partition, and for example try a DOS command like 'dir', we get nothing but garbage.. It seems like it is reading the data files, or any type of files that is present in the DOS partition, and try to list them as directories. So, somehow I can't access the DOS partition correctly.. First, it seemed like maybe VP/ix wasn't installed correctly.. But, I am very sure that that is not the problem.. Then, I thought maybe the DOS partition wasn't done correctly.. But, the setup procedures that was taken seemed ok.. So.. It leaves one last question that I can think of, which is: Is MS-DOS V3.30 compatible with VP/ix DOS V3.20?? i.e. Is there something quite different with the way 3.30 & 3.20 accesses the directory structures?? Can you please send reply directly to: internet: ucarb@athena.ecs.csus.edu or uucp: ucbvax!ucdavis!csusac!athena!ucarb Thanks in advance, Binnur
