[net.ham-radio] MUF Program Problems

n2ic@druxm.UUCP (LondonSM) (02/02/84)

I was able to get the MINIMUF program from Dec. 82 QST working "correctly"
on my C-64.
I put the word "correctly" in quotes because I feel some erroneous
assumptions have been made in the design of MINIMUF.
Specifically, the program consistently predicts ridiculously high
MUF's during the summer months on northern paths.
For example, try the North America - Europe path for a solar flux
of around 200 (near the peak of the sunspot cycle) during July.
Then think about your own experiences on 10 meters during July a few
years ago.

I have another program, obtained third hand. The person who gave it
to me says it was in one of the RSGB publications. This program
gives the LUF (based on assumptions I don't know), MUF and HPF (highest
possible frequency). The results this program gives are far more
believable than MINIMUF. If there is interest, I will post on the
net.

                        73,

                        Steve London, N2IC
