System: HP RS/25c (386/25mhz) OS: Xenix 2.3.2 We are attempting to connect the new HP LaserJet IIIsi to the standard COM1 serial port on this machine, however we continually get "22 I/O INTERFACE ERROR" (basically a handshake problem) after about 12 pages have printed. The machine normally has a LaserJet Series II connected to the serial port with no problems at all. We have connected at least a half dozen other printers to the serial port without problems. HP has changed the serial port board in the machine and the i/o board in the printer. No luck. To make matters worse, the same hardware setup under DOS works just fine. HP is saying there must be an incompatibility between the LaserJet IIIsi i/o interface and the Xenix serial drivers, but I don't by that. If the interface is truly software-only xon/xoff, then we're not talking brain surgery to get the handskhake right. For this reason, I suspect their "software only" handshake mode is still looking for some kind of RS-232 control line handshake. I intend to put a breakout box on the line and see if any of the RS-232 lines toggle during transmission. In the mean-time, if anyone has *successfully* driven a LaserJet IIIsi from the standard serial port under Xenix, I'd like to hear from you. -- Dave Hammond daveh@marob.uucp uunet!rutgers!phri!marob!daveh
