[comp.unix.xenix.sco] CGI & VGA problems

obyrne@ac.dal.ca (Owen Byrne) (05/16/91)

I've been trying to get CGI version 1.1.0 working on an SCO XENIX 2.3.2 system
and keep running into the same problem. When I run the cgitest program I keep
getting the error "Cgitest Error -3000 opening device display. Check
Environment Variables CGIPATH and CGIDISP". I've checked the variables and
they are set properly. The only thing I can find in the manuals is a note in
the release notes saying "The SCO CGI VGA device driver requires an SCO Xenix
Console Driver with VGA support in order to work". This is all happening on a
Compaq 386/20e with VGA. During boot-up the console is identified as VGA.

I couldn't get CGI to recognize my VGA. I sent email to SCO and after a small
bit of fussing (very small), they kindly sent me a no-charge update to the
latest and greatest CGI and development system. The CGI they sent seems to
work fine with a clone VGA card, although it only recognizes 640x480x4 and
320x200x8, and not the high-resolution, non-standard modes. (Can't hardly
blame them.) I wish it came with the ability to modify things appropriately
for accessing the non-standard modes.
