[comp.unix.xenix.sco] CD ROM and ODT

rpinder@phad.hsc.usc.edu (Rich Pinder) (06/15/91)

I am investigating providing cd rom access to users on our SCO ODT
server. Since much of the retrieval software used with cd roms is
written for dos, I would like to be able to use the dos services from
ODT to handle the access.

Pioneer makes a six cd system (DRM-600) which makes sense for
accessing larger amounts of data. The specs for the machine say that
disks can be accessed individually or chained together to look like
one device.

One company called Micro Design makes a software that makes the cd
look as if it is a unix file system. This system (called SCSI
express) seems to easily allow unix access, and offers dos emulation
under VP/ix. I don't know whether it would support the dos services
included with ODT (called merge?).

Has anyone had any experience with any of the above??? Has it worked
out in your environment??

Thanks in advance.
