I finally managed to get hold of an archive Viper-150Mb tape drive to do my backups. After many ours of trying to install it on my Xenix 2.3.3AT system and get it to work it won't budge. I always get that /dev/rct0 'doesn't exists as a device or wrong adderss' (the file (node?) is in /dev though). What I have done: Configure the controler (VP402) as follow: DMA - 3 BASE - 0x0220 IRQ - 2 Install the drivers that came with the with the package (I did try it without installing the driver but was also unsuccessful). Run mkdev tape and set all parameters (drive type A) , relink the kernel and reboot. None of the above works! Also, after booting off with the new kernel, I can no longer access my "B:" drive in vpix (as a matter of fact, I can't even get in vpix without causing a system failure that requires rebooting!) Can anyone suggest anything? Please, respond by email and I will summarize. Thanks MBC -- Michel B.
