[comp.unix.admin] Problem with UDS V.3224/V.3225 modem and uucico

ams@auspex.auspex.com (Allan Schwartz) (10/16/90)

For modem and/or uucico wizards:

I am having trouble with a UDS V.3224/V.3225 modem, and uucico (and
tip). This is on a Sun3 running SunOS4.0.3.

We want to dial-in to one of two different hosts. One has the same
modem, a UDS V.3224/V.3225 modem, the other has a Telebit
TrailBlazerPlus/T2000. However when auto-dialing, the connection
always fails, the symptom is the same.

When we try to connect to the other modem, for example, the
Telebit T2000, the command fails like this:
	% tip host2
	dialing...
	call failed
	%

Although, the phone-connection *is* made, the modems appear to be
squalking at each other, the UDS modem displays "TRAINING", then
suddenly, the tip times out. Now, the phone-link *was* established,
and is actually left up (although unusable), but tip (or uucico)
doesn't realize this. I figure this has something to do with MNP
TRAINING mode, but don't know how to fix it.

Has anyone be able to make UDS modems work with either tip
or uucico? What are the correct initialization string and
"switch" settings?
