[comp.unix.admin] Applying patches to rn: HOWTO?

ljg@ecosoft.uucp (Lowell J. Gray) (10/29/90)

Dear net:

I have the source code for rn revision 45 (rn.45.tar.Z downloaded from UUNET)
and the patches for revision 46 and 47 (rn.46.patch.Z, rn.47.patch.Z also from
UUNET). Naturally, I first uncompress everything. Then I extract the tar
archive for rn.45, giving me a source code hierarchy. What do I then do to
apply the patch diffs to get the source up to rev 46 (and then 47...)? I assume
I need to run some kind of sed script, but I don't know what the exact command
is and the patch files don't tell me.

I'm running this on a PC-clone with SCO XENIX V/286 v2.2.3.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get the patch program. It is also available on UUNET (I think it
is in ~/pub/patch.tar.Z or something like that.
