[comp.unix.admin] Looking for Tape Library Management Software.

dennett@cyclone.Kodak.COM (Charlie Dennett) (11/09/90)

I need something to help me keep track of tapes used for backups and
other purposes. Information on each tape would include things like
tape name or number, what it was used for (dump, tar, etc.), date
tape was written, expiration date, plus any other data that would
be needed. Tapes would be in one of two states - scratch or current.
A scratch tape is one whose expiration date has passed and can
therefore be reused, while a current tape has not reached its
expiration date.

I'd also like to be able to print lists of scratch and current tapes
sorted various ways.

Before I reinvent the wheel, is there something that might be worth
looking at already out there either public domain or not?

I once wrote such a package in COBOL (you didn't hear me admit that :-)
but it was written for a propriatary system and would be difficult
if not impossible to port to C and UNIX.

Thanks for any help.
