Can anyone out there tell me what their institutions are charging for use
of computer time and disk resources? We provide service to our campus with
a VAX 6320 running VMS, and a DECsystem 5810 running ULTRIX. Recently, we
have had several large grant recipients come to us and ask what our charges
are for computer time. I would like to give my boss a good answer.
How much does your campus/business charge for:
Connect time?
CPU time?
Disk storage?
I/O?
Page faults/related system overhead?
Printing costs?
Are these charges billed after use? Is an account balance set up and checked
at login time? Do you charge people only for externally-funded grants which
use resources? Is a charge for computer time built in to the campus "overhead"
percentage charged to grants? Is a student fee charged for each enrolled
student to cover computing costs? Do you just charge the student fee to
students actually taking courses that make use of computing resources?
Any information you can send me concerning your policies would be much
appreciated.
