[comp.unix.admin] Batch jobs package - interactive job manipulation

exnirad@brolga.cc.uq.oz.au (Nirad Sharma) (01/20/91)

I'm looking for a batch job package for a SYSV Unix (Xenix) that has the
following features:

	1. Ability to start jobs (obviously!) and assign names to them
	   e.g. $ batch "print_labels -ob 2" "Label run"
where print_labels is a program and Label run is the job name

	2. An interative job control program that would list the current running
status of all batched jobs for the current user refreshed every
couple of seconds. This would (hopefully) be screen-based and allow
the user to cancel (or maybe pause) submitted jobs. The names
assigned to the jobs as in 1. would also be displayed for easy
	   recognition of the jobs.

I am aware of the at command but it fails to attach labels to batch jobs and
has other minor shortcomings. The program in 2. should be user-friendly as
users who are not very UNIX-literate will be using it.

I could probably put something together myself but I imagine that this has
already been done by someone.

By the way, while I'm at it, are there any programs for interactively (i.e
screen-based) manipulating the print queues ? Just wondering.

Thanks for any help.
