Does anyone know of any software available (commercial or public domain) for monitoring a large number of workstations (e.g. some software that runs on each workstation and monitors processes, file systems, etc., and reports back to a central facility)? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Nicholas R. Trio, WB3COR UUCP: nrt@nrtpc.uucp Internet: nrt@ibm.com IBM T.J. I would suggest you take a look at the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), which can be used for monitoring of the type you describe (and, indeed, is used for such monitoring on over 1,000 workstations and fileservers here at Project Athena). Internet Request For Comment 1157 describes the protocol. There are several implementations of it on the market, including one by NYSERNet Inc., which is the one we use here at Athena. I'm afraid I don't know much more about it than that, but if you can't find details anywhere else, feel free to send me E-mail and I'll see if I can get a contact address or phone number at NYSERNet for you. -- Jonathan Kamens USnail: MIT Project Athena 11 Ashford Terrace jik@Athena.MIT.EDU Allston, MA 02134 Office: 617-253-8085 Home: 617-782-0710
