[comp.unix.admin] bread error with dump

jar@goofy.apple.com (Janine A. Roeth) (02/19/91)

Hello,

For the first time in my life, I've gotten the following error from dump:

  <stuff deleted>
DUMP: (This should not happen)bread from /dev/rxd1g [block 997600]: count=8192
, got=-1
DUMP: 68.36% done, finished in 0:06
DUMP: (This should not happen)bread from /dev/rxd1g [block 1028326]: count=512
0, got=-1
DUMP: (This should not happen)bread from /dev/rxd1g [block 1028336]: count=819
2, got=-1
DUMP: 92.57% done, finished in 0:01
DUMP: (This should not happen)bread from /dev/rxd1g [block 990336]: count=8192
, got=-1
DUMP: (This should not happen)bread from /dev/rxd1g [block 992144]: count=8192
, got=-1

This is happening consistently. Are these bad blocks that I need to map out?
I'm sure this is a straightforward thing that many of you have seen before....

I'm on a Sun 4/260 running SunOS 4.0.3.

Please respond to jar@apple.com.
