[comp.unix.admin] System V.4 information sources summary

craig@gpu.utcs.utoronto.ca (Craig Hubley) (03/22/91)

Two weeks ago I posted a request for information on System V.4 administration
and programming. I asked for "any and all" and forgot to mention that I
knew of the Prentice-Hall manual set. Oops. Anyway, I was inundated with
references, some of which included ISBN and phone numbers and other useful
stuff, as well as the names of a couple of books I had never heard of,
including one from McGraw-Hill that would seem to be exactly what I needed
(to recommend to someone else). Here's the summary, I tried to preserve
quotes of substance but have summarized and compressed everything else and
probably lost a couple of attributions in the wash.

THANKS AGAIN TO...

	covered.

NEW EDITIONS OF OLDER BOOKS

Also, check for the more standard UNIX texts to see if they have new
additions for sVr4

	by Kochan and Woods

SIMPLIFYING THE INTERFACE TO Vr4 SO THERE IS NOT SO MUCH TO LEARN IN THE
FIRST PLACE, THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO MAKE LEARNING SOFTWARE SIMPLE...

Hope rekindled by:	decanio@shadow.pyramid.com (Tom DeCanio)

Fortunately there is a bunch of work going
on to make the administration of these machines more friendly, ie simple
menu driven tools that operate much like stuff you would find on a pc. This
really beats manually editing scads of configuration files.
