[comp.unix.admin] Purchasing drives for SunOS 4.1.1

jc@raven.bu.edu (James Cameron) (04/12/91)

System: SunOS 4.1.1 with 4 SparcStation 2's, an SLC and a
	    Sun 4/380 as console.

Spending: Willing to spend between $6,000 - 7000.

Questions: We are in need of more disk space. We have two Seagate
Wren V's now, and some smaller seagate drives. What would
be the gurus' choices if they were in the same position?

I am looking at a strong posibility of Wren VII's and to be
honest, I am completely new to hardware. I am taking over
Sys. Adm. job of a graduating senior, and would like to do
as much of this as possible without his assistance as he will
  	    be gone soon.

Please provide both quotes, manufactures, and any other info
with your description. I will post a summary of responses
when I have made my decision.

Extra: Also, if anyone has good ideas on what magazines or the like
which would be very beneficial to my learning about the current
hardware situation in compu-land, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.

I have received a lot of mail in reply to this and will be posting the
summary this weekend. However, my boss wants to know a bit about
the 2+GB disks out there. So, what would be the choice of the net?
Can I get a SMD disk for less than $7000?
