The query I sent a couple of weeks ago about RTTY units with AMTOR capability produced absolutely no responses. However, I have found out the following: The new Kantronics Universal Terminal Unit (UTU), which hooks up to any computer terminal or computer with a terminal program, can handles RTTY and AMTOR at the several standard speeds. However, it can copy only 170 Hz shifts, not 425 (a standard commercial shift) or 850 or anything else. It does not have an internal way of reversing mark and space. Likewise, the AEA AMT-1 AMTOR box handles RTTY and AMTOR at only 170 Hz shifts. However, its baud rate is variable from 1-100 baud. It does have internal normal/reverse capability. I have yet to find a relatively inexpensive box that does not require a computer that handles both AMTOR and shifts besides 170. I do not think such a beast exists. --Dan, N6ICX (For those of you in the SF Bay area, Quement Electronics in San Jose has the UTU, and carries other AEA and Kantronics stuff.)
