[comp.unix.admin] Experiences with small Uninterruptable Power Supply?

wsineel@wsooti01.info.win.tue.nl (Eelco Vriezekolk) (05/17/91)

Hi,

I own a Sun 386i workstation, and I'm planning to move to
Africa and take the machine with me. But power supply there is
not stable: both in level (160V...280V?) and in availability.

So I need a uninterruptable power supply. It should allow me
to shutdown the station in case of power drops, and also
filter all kinds of spikes and noise from the AC outlet. I
don't like my machine to burn out because of a spike in the
power.
In case of total power outages, a few minutes should be enough
to do a quick halt of the machine.

Does someone have any experiences with these UPSs? Could you
give me approximate prices? Is a UPS really a solution to all
my AC-problems?

(I hope this is the right newsgroup for this; I think that
system administrators will know about UPSs.)

Thanks,
