I have been trying to install a second hard disk on my system without much success. First, the system configuration: Interactive 2.2 Everex Step 386/33 Future Domain TMC 885 SCSI Adaptor Micropolis 1680-7 Hard Disk (The one I'm trying to install) When I run the "addharddisk" system admin command, it tries to figure out the geometry of the disk that I'm adding. It comes up with the following info: heads = 39, cyls = 1000, sectors = 17, bpsec = 512, The drive information says that I have the following: heads = 7, cyls = 1780, sectors = 54, bpsec = 512 I am not given the opportunity to alter any of these from within addharddisk. Furthermore, when it comes time to enter bad track information, the bad tracks listed on the drive can't be entered because they are "out of range" with respect to the geometry the system thinks I have. If I just allow the system to go ahead and install the disk using what it thinks is the geometry, I get alot of bad track messages when I try to mount the drive. I've noticed that there is an equally strange geometry for my primary disk (Maxtor 380 MB) listed in the /etc/partitions file. Am I missing something here? Is there some sort of "virtual geometry" here that my scsi adaptor is creating? The /etc/partitions file shows an equally strange entry for my primary disk, a Maxtor 380 MB disk. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave -- __________________________________________________________________________ David A.
