I'm looking for pointers to information on multi-host (distributed, networked host) administration. I realize there is little prior art and few working systems. So far I've see papers on the following: Moira (MIT) SAT (Univ of Kentucky) Watcher (Univ of New Mexico) System Administration Daemons (Convex Corp) Tracker (AT&T) rdist, yp, NFS (BSD & Sun) meager IEEE 1003.7 status reports (Posix Sys Admin Standards Group) The results of this study are driving the development of my own administration system (which I'm proposing for a Master's Thesis). I also need pointers to what tools adminstrators are using and what they would like to see available. There was some discussion on this point 3+ monthes ago, but I never saw a summary or resolution. PLEASE mail me: 1. any pointers to existing systems or administrative techniques for managing multi-host sites 2. anything you would like to see in the "ultimate" administration tool 3. whether you would be interested in my findings and any tools which are developed from my thesis. Thanks!!! - Erik Univ. of Utah Grad Student (CS) & Unisys UNIX Administrator US Mail: Erik Sean Nolte e-mail: nolte@cs.utah.edu M/S B2B06 <???>!unislc!erik 322 North 2200 West Salt Lake City, UT 84116
