[comp.unix.admin] Looking for something like CU

tericks@plains.NoDak.edu (Terry Erickson) (06/07/91)

Greetings,

I was wondering if there is another Port Accessing program for Unix
based machines, like CU, for a System V.

I am looking because I am trying to port to another machine, and CU
seems to work well for most of it, but some control characters aren't
coming through correctly.

If there are any possible ways to get the control characters to come
through please let me know, otherwise I would like to find a different
utility that will.

     Thanks in advance.

                                     Terry Erickson

Cu is supposed to be transparent to control characters. Though, perhaps,
it might not like characters with the 8-bit on. If it's characters with
8-bit off that are causing problems, I'd start thinking that the modem is
eating them.

I use "xcmalt"; the current version is maintained by JPRadley. It runs fine
under SCO UNIX V 3.2.1. There are also much more complex packages called
pcomm and ecu; I have looked at them briefly.

JPRadley is at 72160.1341@compuserve.com, or jpr@jpradley.UUCP.

You aren't too clear about which control caharacters aren't getting from which
point A to which point B.

Nevertheless, there is XC, which will do whatever CU does, plus.
(Used to be called XCMALT, but I rebaptized it.)

Thanks. The program has been renamed XC. Posted to UnixForum in Compuserve a
few weeks ago.

My address as you gave it is OK, but see my signature.
