[comp.unix.sysv286] Microport hardware compatibility query

pmartino@csserv1.ic.sunysb.edu (Steve Wechsler) (02/11/91)

Does anybody have or know where to get a list of hardware that is compatible
with Microport V.2.4? In the manual they only have a list of new hardware
in the release notes (at least, that's all I could find).

I am looking to purchase a PC that I will be able to run this system on, but
I want to make sure my hard drive will be compatible. Will Microport
support IDE drives (in the docs, they make mention of an ESDI drive, and I
understand that IDE is software compatible with ESDI? Hopefully?)? I'm
pretty sure it doesn't support SCSI.

Also, any help on compatible or incompatible video options would be of help.

Thanks.

i'm surprised. ide drives mostly (exactly?) look like plain-vanilla
dos drives+controllers; their claim-to-fame is bundling the controller
electronics with the drive electronics on the drive. they should be
indistinguishable from mfm drives and conventional controllers, to the
software...

I have a Seagate 1144A (125 megs, IDE) running under SCO 286 Xenix 2.2.3, with
no problems a all. Actually, the only hard part was setting up CMOS, because
the AT's bios wouldn't believe the drive had 35 sectors/track...
