[comp.unix.sysv286] 1:1 controller performance under uPort sys V/AT 2.4.0-L

I recently replaced my old 2:1 MFM controller with a 1:1 RLL controller.
However, when benchmarking hard disk performance under Microport System V/AT
Version 2.4.0-L on my 8Mhz 286-AT clone, I discovered that a physical
interleave of 2:1 on my hard disk performed better than a physical interleave
of 1:1. Does anyone know if there are any parameters in the kernel which
can be tweaked to make 1:1 interleaves efficient? I've been considering
trying to write a disc driver which reads (and caches) complete tracks,
but that's a pretty difficult job that I'm not too sure I want to tackle.
Has anyone heard of any replacement disc drivers out there which are
any better than what Microport supplies? Thanks.
