I had this same problem with vpix and ISC 2.2 when I was trying to get
my NOVELL NE/2 ethernet adapter to work with vpix as a DDA device.
I made the mistake to configure the NE/2 card for interrupt 2
AND told vpix that the card was using interrupt 2. After that I had
the same problem as you describe, when I started vpix the screen went
black and the computer rebooted.
The solution was to configure the DDA device for the NE/2 card as using
interrupt 9 and everything worked after that.

The problem is probably that the DDA driver was receiving all the extended
interrupts (8-15) as IRQ 2 and promptly decided to reboot the computer.

Hope this helps !
