Does anybody work with Jove (text editor: Jonathan Own Version of EMACS) under Unix V.2 for 80386 (Interactive, version 1.0.2) ? I have a problem with loading big files (more than 400,000 bytes): the buffer is overwritten with memory (dynamics string variables) from the beginning of the buffer. Is it a problem with brk() and sbrk() ? (because I tried the inbedded version of malloc(), as well as Jonathan's one (#define MY_MALLOC): same result), or is it a story with memory segments, or "int" which should be "long", or a non-portable assignment in Jove (relative to byte order in words ?...), or just something else, maybe nothing to fix ?... (suspected files: malloc.c, buf.c, insert.c,..., or the machine itself, Compaq 80386, or the operating system - outdated version) ? - this bug does not appear on other different machines that I've tested, and such a file is easily editable under "vi" - It's a pity, because Jove is a very good text editor, pleasant to the beginners, entirely configurable, and powerful (multi-files, windows, ...). Maybe I should use EMACS, but I've heard it's much bigger (sources are 13 Mb, vs 0.6 Mb for Jove). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eric HURTEBIS (Institut Geographique National - France) Net: eh@ign.uucp Tel: +33 1 43 98 80 00 ext.7366 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
