V2.2.1 of Interactive Unix contains several bug fixes and one significant enhancement. The enhancement is data compression on distribution media. Files are in compressed format and are decompressed automatically during installation, a feature which decreases the number of diskettes and installation time considerably. The bugs now fixed include: Problems installing on fixed disk with more than 100 bad sectors or more than 43 clusters of bad sectors, a problem which prevented some users with large disks from installing. Incompatability with binaries which used the msgctl(2) syscall when those binaries were produced on other SVID-compliant systems. During installation, attempting to change disk parameters had no real, physical effect. Problems with some Adaptec 1640 SCSI controllers in some Micro Channel architecture machines. Problems installing: with Seagate IDE fixed disk drives, eg the model 157A. with Rodime IDE fixed disk drives, eg RD3128A and RD3058A. with DEC Workstation 325s. with WD1007V ESDI fixed disk controllers. if, during disk preparation, a r/w surface analysis was chosen, but not the option to add defects. Minor POSIX compliance problems. Kernel rebuild during installation (after configuring in a driver or subsystem) wasn't always successful. We know there are other issues, and know/hope that you will let us know about them. This update addresses only a few of the more obvious and significant ones. The ship date for this update is not fixed yet, but will be in November. For users experiencing problems with POSIX issues or with the msgctl(2) issue who need a resolution immediately, there are 3 new fix disks available from your distributor: SSU.1a POSIX fixes SSU.1b SDS libc.a (POSIX) fix SSU.2 msg.h fix Thank you for your time. ...
