It  is with great pleasure that I pass along the news I learned  last
nite. At the recent annual meeting of NZART, the New Zealand national
society,  Ian  Ashley,  ZL1AOX was presented a certificate  of  merit
naming  him as Amateur of the Year for 1983 for his work as an  AO-10
telecommand station and for his pioneering work in packet radio.

I  know I express the congratulations of all the AMSAT membership  to
Ian for this most deserved award.
