[net.ham-radio] mgweed!rjr's response to mpackard & other comments

rjr@mgweed.UUCP (Bob Roehrig) (06/27/84)

I really didn't want to start something here in this news group
when I think that "mpackard" should really be ignored, but
since I was the object of the "Stop the Bulletins" flame, I
will most certainly respond to it here!

BURNER ON

I could say "Hey, April 1st was a couple months ago" or "Why
are you criticizing amateur traffic from ARRL when you don't
appear to be a ham (at least I didn't see any call sign - let
alone your name)" or "Are you related to Wayne
Green?"................

After reading your comments on no-code I will say that ham
radio might not benefit from having you on the air at all ,
regardless of whether you use Morse code or not!

As someone else suggested, and I have seen it in other news
groups as well, what's wrong with using your "n" key to skip
over the stuff you don't like to read? I sure as hell don't
read everything either but I don't flame everyone just because
I am not interested in their items!

BURNER OFF

I think Wayne Green's proposal was the most horse-crap idea I
have ever seen, especially to be sent to the FCC as a petition.
On the other hand I will say I like Wayne. I don't agree with
him a lot of times but you have to admit, he does get you
thinking.

I don't always agree with the ARRL either. Previous to Wayne's
petition, I think the most idiotic idea was the League's
incentive licensing plan, which we have today. It would have
made much more sense to allocate priveledges according to what
modes one qualifies for by taking a test for each mode.
Naturally, then, the more modes you are qualified in, the more
spectrum you can use.

I agree with the basic idea of why have code a requirement on
VHF. However I don't think the same spectrum/priveledges should
be available for those that have not passed the entire amateur
exam. The FCC stated that one way or another, there will be
some kind of hobby radio service available that will require an
exam but not require a code test. We shall see what
happens.........

Hey there Bob (AJ9S), keep those interesting frequency lists
coming.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement on the bulletins.
I wouldn't send them if I didn't think there was interest. I
will look into a way to possibly give a brief description in
the title line concerning the content. Tnx for that suggestion.
