I want to add tape backup capability to ISC 2.2, and in the "supported devices" documentation I only find mention of what looks like non-SCSI tape drives e.g. Wangtek 5150ES, requiring the "PC-36" or "PC-36II" controller. Is anyone using SCSI tape under ISC 2.2? Rob Lingelbach rob@xyzoom.info.com -or- {well-connected}!uunet!xyzoom!rob KB6CUN Compuserve: 71101,176 2641 Rinconia Dr L.A. CA 90068 voice: 213 464-6266

Just plug the tape drive into the system, configure the HPDD and voila you have a tape drive. You might have to create entries for the tape devices but this is well documented in the Maintenance Procedures manual (section 7.1.7.2). As a second note, I have used several tape drives that are not in the list with no problems (just configured them as a generic scsi tape drive). -- Conor P. All of the cartridge tapes that I have tried run in the 3 to 5 MB per minute range. I have tried 60MB, 150, and 320s by several manufacturers with several different interfaces (adaptec scsi, bustek scsi, bustek eisa scsi, etc) and have seen no significant differences in performance. One tape drive that repeated attained throughput in the range of 12 to 15 MB per minute was a 9 track 6250 drive. (Yes this was on the same system where the cartridge tapes are only acheiving 3 to 5 MB per minute) -- Conor P.
