I recently ordered an NS16550 chip from JDR Microdevices. Instead of the National Semiconductor product, they sent me the WD16C550-PL chip. Another person running the same OS as me (Esix Rev D) said he's using these chips just fine. In my system, with the chip installed, I can not access the serial port! Data sent to the port goes into "never never land", and the process sits waiting to be aborted with a CTRL-C. The I/O board I'm using is an "AT Multi I/O AD-450." The manual doesn't list a company name (maybe I'll have to open the box again to see what the board says, if anything). One UART is soldered, and the second ("port 2", or TTY01 in Esix) is socketted. Naturally, it was the socketted one I tried to replace. Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? BTW, I just ordered a 4-port AST serial card, hopefully to use in conjunction with this 2-port card until such time as I'm rich enough to be able to afford a "better" single-slot 6-port card (an intelligent card). Any advise, comments, etc on configuring this will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
