I have been trying to get a DECStation 5000 (Ultrix 4.0) talking to a SCO Unix PC over a modem. I am having a problem which seems to involve a misconfigured getty. My problem: Upon a carrier detect, the SCO box sends a login prompt. From the DECStation I type my login and <RETURN>. However, the SCO box just sits there thinking no <RETURN> has been typed yet. A little experimentation revealed typing ^J instead of <RETURN> caused the SCO box to accept my login name and send the password prompt. Using another ^J after the password gets me logged in. However, past this point the use of ^J works only now and then. Most times ^J doesn't work either (e.g. "cd /usr^J" yields "cd /usr: not found" from unix). I am using the FAS driver version 2.07 PL0 on the SCO box. I have been using this driver for several months with no other problems. My getty line looks like this: root 12949 1 0 21:25:40 ? 0:00 /etc/getty ttyFM01 7 The pertinent lines from my gettydefs file are: 4 # B2400 HUPCL # B2400 CS8 SANE HUPCL TAB3 ECHOE IXANY #\r\n@!login: # 7 5 # B4800 HUPCL # B4800 CS8 SANE HUPCL TAB3 ECHOE IXANY #\r\n@!login: # 4 6 # B9600 HUPCL # B9600 IXON CS8 SANE HUPCL TAB3 ECHOE IXANY #\r\n@!login: # 5 7 # EXTA HUPCL # EXTA IXON CS8 SANE HUPCL TAB3 ECHOE IXANY #\r\n@!login: # 6 Is my gettydefs file correct ?? Is there some problem with the FAS driver and the DECStation combination ?? I might add the DECStation can log on to UUNET via uucico with no problems. However, right after the password acceptance the uunet computer spits out the message "changing to new line discipline" or something like this. I obviously am a novice regarding getty and line disciplines. Any ideas ????? -- Dr. Victor L. Rice Litwin Process Automation
