[comp.unix.sysv386] New ESIX X11R4 binaries/patch available

mknister@dip.eecs.umich.edu (Michael John Knister) (12/12/90)

A new binary version (and source patches too) of Thomas Roell's X11R4
server is available for ESIX. The problem with the display getting
messed when exiting X has been fixed; now you can even switch to and
from VT's when running X.

The only file changed is the actual server, /usr/bin/X11/X (which is
also linked to /usr/bin/X11/X386). If you have already ftp'd the old
binaries, you can just get the file X386bin.tar.Z

The source code patch is also available, in 'esix-patch1'; the
'esix386.h' header file I used to compile the server there too.
Thomas's original code (for ISC) is still in XSERVER.tar.Z

You can ftp these things from freebie.engin.umich.edu in /pub/esix
(after hours please). I have no control over the ftp machine, so the
files may disappear. Let me know, and I'll try to put them back.

The only major remaining problem is getting it to work with bus
mice. If I find a solution, I'll post again.

If anyone solves this or any other Esix X11R4 problem, please let me
know; I'll collect and combine the fixes.

I'd also like to thank Thomas Roell again. I am extremely grateful
for the fantastic work you have done, and I hope you don't give up on
PD software!
