Could somebody tell me where I can get a modem program. I'm using ISC Unix 2.2, talking remotely to a BSD 4.3 Unix. I'm interested primarily in down- loading ASCII and binary files. The remote Unix has ftp access. I'm currently using Kermit, but I'd like to use Y-Modem-G or Z-Modem. I've heard of a program called TELIX. Is it good and where can I get it? <> Allen M. I tried sending this via e-mail originally, but, alas, it bounced. So here it is for the world to enjoy. :-) Actually, this seems to be a pretty popular question lately.. Perhaps "someone" should think of handling a FAQ list! ----------------------- >Could somebody tell me where I can get a modem program. I'm using ISC Unix >2.2, talking remotely to a BSD 4.3 Unix. I use a program called "pcomm".. It's basically a Procomm clone. You can ftp it from cerl.cecer.army.mil (129.229.1.101) ...but don't bother downloading the patches -- it seems that they've already been applied. I've compiled and am using it under ISC 2.2, no problems at all.. I'm very pleased with it. >I've heard of a program called TELIX. Is it good and where can I get it? Yes, it's pretty good.. [basically, another Procomm clone] It is a DOS program, so you would need to run it under VP/ix. I've seen it at wuarchive.wustl.edu in [I think] one of the pub/mirrors/msdos directories. BTW, Telix has built-in Zmodem. Telix is really pretty nice, but you have to mess with DOS in order to do anything with it. [8x3 character filenames, for instance] I think you can get a "full-fledged" zmodem (rx, rb, rz, sx, sb, sz) from rice-chex.ai.mit.edu or ames.arc.nasa.gov Hope that helps, Allan aschaffe@polyslo.calpoly.edu -- ADA, n.: Something you need only know the name of to be an Expert in Computing. Telix is *strictly* a MessyDOS application that (unfortunately) has *not* been ported to UNIX. You can either ftp it or dial in and download it. Yes, it is not written for ISC/ESIX/UHC/Microport..., but with these vendors all claiming Xenix compatibility, potential porting effort should be either nill or bearable. The nice thing about this ecu program is that it not only comes with good doc, but it also supports xmodem, kermit ymodem(g), zmodem etc.. You name it. They are all built in unlike pocomm you need to hook up the kermit (Sigh.. everyone should build in this) and zmodem. I am busy now. As soon as I get some time, I will port it to ESIX and I will give a short post about my impression in this group for those interested.
