[comp.unix.sysv386] Dell unix 4.0

yeh@cs.purdue.EDU (Wei Jen Yeh) (11/30/90)

Can someone using Dell unix sv4(.2) (or has the information) tell me
if the gnu c compiler and debugger are shipped on the tape? How about the
source?
And, is the archive 2150s tape drive dc6150 compatible? I apologize if
this is a stupid question, but I know nothing about tape drive standards.
Would you recommend that model?
  thanks in advance.

Would somebody usnig Dell unix 4.0 comment on which tape drive he's using?
We originally planned to purchase an Archive 2150s, but then found out from
dell support that the officially supported tape drive is wangtek 5150pk,
which requires an extra controller. Is anyone using the archive 2150s
with dell's unix 4.0? Is there any problem during the installation (using
the 2150s)? And are those two drives compatible? (sorry, I don't know much
about tape drive standards) I would rather use a scsi tape drive if possible.

Also, I would appreciate any comment/experience on 150mb (scsi or not) tape
drives. I've been calling around for the 2150s, but could not find one.
Thus, any source (reliable, and preferablly cheap) concerning the 2150s is
also appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The Wangtek 5099 and 5125 work with the PC-36 or EV-811 controllers.
The Archive 2150s works with the Adaptek controller. I've used a SCSI
DAT, too, but I can't remember who's.

I've never found a cheap source for these, even in fives. They just
aren't cheap.

The best price that I have found for the Archive 2150s is $549.

IME Computers was selling Archive 2150S for ~$500 a few months ago.
This was just a bare SCSI tape drive ready for internal mounting. The
best price I could find on a Wangtek 150MB SCSI QIC streamer was $675
for a bare drive, that was from our local Wile Labs Rep.

A friend of mine bought a 2150S from IME and has had no problems with it
connected to his Adaptec 1542B.

IME has been out of these drives for at least a month (so I've been
told)..
