Yes, well, our remote posting software still seems to put the wrong address in the `sender:' line, although it is getting the right one in the `reply-to:' field, so... if you're replying to my quiz--this is of course assuming that it managed to be received by anyone beyond the confines of my terminal, pls. be sure to route it to . . . ...ucbvax!ucbingres!ebm or, ebm%ucbingres@ucbvax.arpa or something like that. So as to make this posting slightly less than content free (from my perspective anyway), let me give a capsule review of REM at UC Berkeley's Greek Theater this past Saturday, 7/20. This is the second time I've seen them--the last time in a venue about 1/8 the size. No matter though as they perform with enough ``it'' to fill a large hall. This is the only band I can think of that has a real group feel. No singer with a backing band and a guitarist that steps out to take his solo here and there. Michael Stipe (vocals) spends only a small amount of time standing front and center singing... instead he moves around like an instrumentalist (ok, voice=instrument), dragging his microphone stand around with him. Guitarist Peter Buck does a fair impression (gymnastics wise) of Pete Townshend, minus the windmill slashes at the strings. Bassist Mike Mills sings some nice harmonies, and the drummer (Bill Berry) plays a bit too loud--or they amplify him too much, whichever. Lots of material from their latest LP, plus tracks from all three of their previous 12"ers and two covers--``Who'll Stop The Rain'' (CCR) and ``See No Evil'' (Television). The latter was sadly lacking Tom Verlaine's guitar signature, but still it was nice. ... gt
