hardware: IPC 386 (25MHz), 8Mbytes, Future Domain SCSI controller, 330Mb HD, NEC MGE graphics adaptor (VGA and 34010), NEC 4D color monitor software: ISC 3.2.2 - system always prints "umount: /usr busy" at shutdown time. i can't find a process that's using /usr at the time. - mouse movement under vpix is S-L-O-W. we're talking snail's pace here. - unix commands run under vpix (ie. env) cause the screen to clear and nothing else happens. switching to another virtual terminal and then back again redraws the vpix screen, showing that the command appears not to have printed anything, and there's another vpix prompt. exiting vpix causes screen to go into reverse video. - programs under vpix are not displayed in color. (ie. norton editor under dos comes up in blue and white, under vpix same program comes up in monochrome) this makes it impossible to use programs like quickbasic under vpix (don't rag me about inferior languages and packages, okay?) i can live with the first two, but the latter two are serious and are disrupting projects that vpix was purchased to help speed along. anybody else have these/similar problems? suggestions? fixes? -- Don't w~~~~||orry, technol~~~ogy will s~~~~~~|||~~ave us! This is not a typical program, so I would suspect that you have something running on /usr or a program that has a /usr file open. try fuser(1M) to see what processes have access to /usr. >- mouse movement under vpix is S-L-O-W. we're talking snail's pace here. We don't use a mouse under vpix, so I can't tell you what the problem is, but I would suspect a configuration problem. Ensure that you have the mouse and serial port configured properly in both vpix and unix. The following problems could be caused by the driver for your NEC graphics engine. >- unix commands run under vpix (ie. env) cause the screen to clear and > nothing else happens. This doesn't happen on our consoles, nor on our non-console terminals (serial or xterms) (although the screen will clear and be redrawn with the DOS program output after you press return following the completion of the UNIX command. Note that the output from the UNIX command gets cleared off because it is not DOS program output - this is similar to what happens when you use :! to run something from vi). >- programs under vpix are not displayed in color. (ie. norton editor > under dos comes up in blue and white, under vpix same program comes Sounds like another configuration problem. We have used color consoles to do some messy-dos graphics development with no problems. -- Conor P. I have this problem only if a process actually uses the /usr filesystem. a normal shutdown does not make any problems. Must be a problem at your site. >- mouse movement under vpix is S-L-O-W. we're talking snail's pace here. Right, I noticed the same. >- unix commands run under vpix (ie. env) cause the screen to clear and > nothing else happens. switching to another virtual terminal and then > back again redraws the vpix screen, showing that the command appears > not to have printed anything, and there's another vpix prompt. exiting > vpix causes screen to go into reverse video. Again at my site Unix commands are working perfectly well. Must be a a setup problem at your site. >- programs under vpix are not displayed in color. I have also color under vpix. No problem.
