[comp.unix.sysv386] AMI Motherboards

mra@srchtec.uucp (Michael Almond) (11/28/90)

Just thought I'd let everyone know that GAIN Systems is offering the
AMI 386/33 Mark IV Screamer (0K) for $1225.00. This is the board made by AMI
and has the AMI BIOS (which I understand works great for Unix users).

You can reach GAIN Systems at 1-404-446-2026.

I don't work form them, but I've had a few requests for low cost sources of
the boards.

I have a question perhaps someone can answer. Has anyone out there
had experience with American Megatrends (AMI) 25 MHz motherboards
running ISC UNIX? The MBs use a Chips and Technologies chipset, the
HD controller is going to be a WD700V SE/2 ESDI controller. I have a
chance to get such a system at a good price, but would like to know if
there are any serious operation or performance problems with such a
combination.

Unless this is deemed a general-interest subject, probably e-mail to
the address in the header or .sig would be most appropriate. Thanks.

I have an AMI-25 running ISC Unix. The only problem I have had is that once I
booted ISC the keyboard key repeat was much to sensitive and made typing
difficult. The problem is much less apparent when I use X-11, probably due
to system overhead. Has anyone else experienced the problem with the
keyboard repeat being too sensitive?

Awesome board... reliable, easy to work with and affordable.
