How sad that we need to resort to the "media" to get quality service from our UNIX vendors. I'm still smarting from the runaround I got from interactive support, when I reported the PANIC bug in the 1.0.6 SCSI driver. The support folks made me run around and reproduce the bug on a number of hardware platforms (esp. compaq 20e). Finally they "certified" the bug and "entered it into their database". But then when I called back and spoke to another support person, they didn't know what a certified bug was, or which database I was referring to. Two releases of UNIX later, they seem to have fixed the problem. I was hoping that the recent improvements in the quality of support had improved the linkage between support staff and engineers, but apparently not. Too bad. We are selling off most of our 386's and bringing up sun 3 and sun 4 equipment, with sun O/S. The O/S itself is a lot better, and I am able to get bug fixes sent to me over the network, arriving within an hour of my request. What a joy ! I hope some managers and folks at Kodak are reading this thread. Steve Fram Technical Director IGC steve@igc.org; cdp!steve
