Sorry to repost this request, but I have not heard from anyone on this subject. I have a Wangtek 5099EN24 60mb drive that I would like to attach a scsi controller to. To get that particular drive up and running there are a number of controllers the cheapest is the one Everex sells with thier machine (you can get the UNIX driver from them as well) The one I run is the Wangtek, what the heck it's thier drive. AT&T ships a wangtek drive with a SCSI bridge controller piggybacked onto it. I believe it was an emulux but don't quote me. Try asking someone in AT&T service, they may be able to help you. Maybe this is the whole point of your question, but- Wangtek -EN drives require a PC-36 type controller; it's the -ES tape units that you use with a SCSI adapter. I don't believe (I'm sure to be corrected) that you can get there from where you are... Maybe you are trying to convert the unit somehow?? -scott

Sun used it with an Emulex MT02 QIC36 to scsi controller in their shoeboxes, and the combination is fast. Based on that combo, I got an EN24 and MT02. Surprise - the MT02 does not correctly support inquiry/read capacity commands, so that systems that look for scsi devices on startup never find it (i.e. ISC Unix, Macs, both MacOs and A/UX). This is not a problem on the Sun because it the software is already set up for it. The only other QIC36 to scsi controller that I know of is the Adpatec 3530 (fairly old), but I don't know if it will work any better than the Emulex in an auto-configure system. That was the reason for the question, to see if anyone else is using the EN24 with a QIC36 to scsi controller, and what their experience has been. Sorry if the original posting was not clear enough. Further on this topic, When I bought my 5099 off the net, the board is a pc-36. The ribbon cable is 50 pin (I think). Hey.. doesn't 50 pin imply SCSI? Or would they make it some other proprietary interface, just to be 'different'? Anyone want to enlighten me to what else I can do with this combination under ISC 2.0.2? We had a 5099EN drive on an old 68020 box, and it had a converter board which goes from the QIC-36 interface to SCSI. The board is made by Adaptec, and is a little old (1984). I can't see a Model number on the board, but the ASSY NO is 400066-00 (rev J). The board has the same footprint as the QIC drive, and is designed to bolt on to it. I have no idea if these are still available (ours came with the computer). I haven't tried this combination on my 386 box -- 'cause it doesn't have a SCSI controller. It does not imply what communications protocols are being used. In fact, they may have chosen to use a 50 pin conector because they needed 37 pins and the next number that has a highly available set of parts was 50 (remember the 8088 and it's 8 bit parts). I thinks that's the model which uses the Wangtek PC-36 controller, or the Everex EV811B controller.
