I have had a Yaesu FT-290R multimode portable 2-meter
rig for 2yrs now and am still thoroughly pleased with it!
Don't like-
1) Does not remember repeater offset.
Do like-
1) Fully self contained, I use it mobile from the
cigarette lighter, base from a power supply, and portable with the
8 self contained C cells.
2) One knob memory channel select for quick mobile
QSY
3) Backlit LCD display- superior to LED's in sunlight
and lower in power consumption when portable.
4) multimode capability
