[comp.unix.sysv386] Does 2.2.1 address any of these problems?

tan@bronson.uucp (Tan Bronson) (03/26/91)

From section 4, Known problems and bugs of version 2.2 release notes:

o Kernel may panic or system hang if multiple SCSI disks doing heavy I/O.

o Ver 2.2 will *not* boot on a Hewlett Packard 486-based machine.

o On machines with certain DMA chips, simultaneous floppy and tape I/O
can cause errors. (What machines have this problem?)

o Multi-volume tape backup using cpio doesn't work with archive vp60i
and adaptec SCSI host adapter. (Doesn't this have a SSU fix?)

thanks.

We had this problem repeatedly with Micropolis 1578 drives. Once we switched
to Maxtor 8760S drives the problem vanished. Since ISC hasn't been able
to reproduce the problems in their lab, I'd guess this is a subtle hardware
bug.
