PC UNIX SIG Wednesday, April 3, 7pm Object Oriented Programming with C++ ------------------------------------ In the April meeting of the PC UNIX SIG, Ron Guilmette will present the basic concepts of object oriented programming, i.e. encapsulation and inheritance, and will provide examples of how to use these important features in the C++ programming language. Static versus dynamic typing in object-oriented languages (e.g. Smalltalk, C++) will be described briefly. Additionally, other notable and important features which differentiate C++ from C will be described and Ron will give a brief update on the penetration of C++ into practical software development projects as well as on the progress of the ANSI X3J16 C++ standardization committee. About the speaker: Ron Guilmette holds an MS in Computer Science, and has worked on compilers and related software development tools since 1980. Over the past two years, he has worked primarily on the enhancement of GNU software under contract to various firms, currently Network Computing Devices in Mountain View. He is known to readers of USENET news as "The C++ Entomologist". (Ron recently talked to the group about his protoize program.) Topic for beginner session: Super makefiles. The meetings are free and open to the public, but members are encouraged to join the parent group, Silicon Valley Computer Society, an IBM PC users group.
