[comp.unix.sysv386] Has anyone got X386 working under Dell SysV R 4.0?

rothenbe@iris.UCDavis.EDU (Bret Rothenberg) (04/11/91)

Has anyone gotten X386 to run under Dell SysV R4.0? Apparently
there is a binary version under pub/386i/beta/ on 131.159.8.35
that will support R4.0 (Personally, I haven't had any luck with
that version or the one in pub/386i/X11R4/).

For me personally, I'm trying to get it to run on a Genoa 5400
with video Bios version 3.5, a Sony 1304 (48KHz Multifreq
Monitor), Logitech C7 Bus Mouse.

The distribution in beta has no install.sh in usr/lib/X11/X386/etc.
Can the install.sh from the version in pub/386i/X11R4 be used?

Specificaly, if you have gotten it to run, could you please tell
me what you did besides untarring the file?

Thanks for the help.

Why do you want to run that verses the X that comes with Dell's product?

Two reasons:

1) Dell's xserver only supports stock VGA cards at 640x480x16, and
Dell's own high res
card, apparently it's a Renaissance GRX card (about $1300 from Dell).

2) Dell's bus mouse driver is not functional in this release...aparently
they are working on
fixing that, but none-the-less it would be nice to have the mouse working :).
