In California the 220 mhz spectrum is used quite extensively.
There hundreds of repeaters in use that occupy all of the allocated
repeater spectrum, and 90% of these repeaters are used often. Not
just sounding their id'er (which happens to be illegal). There
are emergency services and nets on this band just as there are
on the bands below 30MHZ. Vhf serves it purposes for local
communications and works well when integrated with hf for
emergency communications. I would like to see you carry a 520S with
a key on your hip while you are hiking up a mountain searching
for a lost hiker. And I'm sure those people half way across the
the world would also like to hear about the walkathon your
working on. I think that covers it for now. I know I will hear
	from you soon.
