[comp.unix.sysv386] Nethack color???

geoff@vax1.mankato.msus.edu (05/04/91)

Hello,

I know this question has been raised before but...
How do you get color working in nethack 3p9? I have compiles it with
the option TEXTCOLOR defined. Also I have tried setting color in the
NETHACKOPTIONS variable but no color. I'm running on the ISC AT386 color vga
console... anyone have any ideas?

I have also tried this with and without standout, IBMgraphics in the
options. I really like this program and would appreciate any help with getting
color to work.

I am working with ISC v2.2.1, I have a color vga monitor/card..

any ideas??

thanks
geoff

PS: to the authors if thier out there, Nice peice of code, I have never had a
program compile without any warnings. this is of course after I got rename
ironed out in makedefs. So much code written for so many systems and not a
single warning.. (VERY IMPRESSIVE)))

Perhaps this belongs in a FAQ. The UNIX SysV/386 consoles require the
color bytes to be sent out in a different ORDER than nethack sends 'em.
Once you find the right piece of code (there are fourteen thousand
identical printf's that send out color codes #ifdef'ed under different
machines/OS'es) its a two line fix, tops.

C'mon, Nethack is up there with GNUemacs on the AMAZING scale, and I adore
every person who wrote a line of it, but its a total HACK!

Complete rubbish. Nethack (3.0 ...) works fine, *in colour*, without changes
under System V/386 (at least ISC and SCO varieties). All you need to do is set
'standout' in your NETHACKOPTIONS.
